Author to Address 25 Rules of Civility
Jan 21, 2011
Dr. P.M. Forni, author of "Choosing Civility", will be at Drake University in Des Moines on Thursday, February 3 at 7pm as part of the Better Together speaker series. Dr. Forni is the third speaker in the Better Together series, which focuses on how civility impacts our communities and state.
Chairman Jim Leach of the National Endowment for the Humanities kicked off the series in June with his speech "Civility in a Fractured Society". Bill Bishop, author of "The Big Sort" spoke in September about overcoming deep community divisions.
In "Choosing Civility" Dr. Forni remarks, "My main goals in this book are to make a persuasive case for making civility a central concern in our lives, and to present and discuss the 25 basic rules for civility in our time." Dr. Forni suggests that civility can be based upon one key principle. "I suggest in this book that we agree on one principle: that a crucial measure of our success in life is the way we treat one another every day of our lives."
The Better Together speaker series is hosted by Character Counts In Iowa, Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, Drake University and Interfaith Alliance of Iowa. Sponsors include Bankers Trust, and ZANDA Design.
