Lunch Unplugged set to entertain downtown workforce

The Downtown Community Alliance (DCA) along with the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines are pleased to announce the lineup and event details for Lunch Unplugged. This new eight-week entertainment series will be held from noon - 1 p.m. at the Temple for Performing Arts,1011 Locust Street in Downtown Des Moines, beginning March 7 and continuing weekly through April 21, 2011.

Friday, March 4
Ry Cuming - Ry is an Australian born singer songwriter - think Jack Johnson meets Stevie Wonder. He is touring this spring with OneRepublic and Maroon 5. Genre: Pop/Rock/Acoustic

Butch Thompson - In his 40 year career, pianist Butch Thompson has earned a worldwide reputation as a traditional jazz and ragtime master. Genre: Piano, jazz/ragtime

The Nadas - A local favorite, The Nadas will feature Jason Walsmith and Mike Butterworth, the duo work perfectly as a songwriting unit, skillfully evoking the romance, introspection and uncertainty of living life on one's own terms in the 21st Century. Genre: singer/songwriters/folk/rock
Tickets are $8 and can be bundled with a boxed lunch from South Union Bread Café for an additional $7. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.LunchUnplugged.com, by phone at 515-246-2300 and at the Civic Center ticket office at 221 Walnut Street in Downtown Des Moines. Tickets may also be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to the show. Lunch from South Union must ordered online with a ticket purchase three days prior to the show. Concert attendees may also bring their own lunch to eat in the theater.
"Lunch Unplugged adds a new layer to the work/life culture for the downtown workforce," explains Glenn Lyons, President and CEO of the Downtown Community Alliance. "We hope downtown workers will embrace this opportunity, take a break from work and make this event part of their lunchtime ritual."
