The Directors Council awarded Leadership Grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines

Sep 10, 2012

The Directors Council (TDC) has been awarded a $25,000 Leadership Grant for the African American Leadership Forum from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. Funds will support capacity building, leadership development and activities that will enhance the community and help the movement forward.

The Des Moines African American Leadership Forum (DMAALF) is creating a broad-reaching network of African American leaders that values and engages in intentional dialogue, shared planning and collective action while developing a common agenda to improve the economic and social well-being of the African American community.

AALF recognizes that the challenges African Americans face as a community impact everyone yet the health and vitality of African American individuals, families, institutions, and the community, as a whole, are intricately linked to each other. AALF envisions a thriving community and supports goals that benefit everyone, yet we craft solutions based on the strengths, needs, and challenges of the Des Moines African American community.

"We are so pleased to join forces with the Community Foundation," Jerald Brantley, Co-Chair of the Des Moines African American Leadership Forum and chair of The Directors Council, said. "This partnership will allow the African American Leadership Forum to move forward on addressing the education, criminal justice, health, family and economic development issues that affect our community while developing leaders that can lead our community well into the future."

The Des Moines African American Leadership Forum was established to improve the quality of life of our community through leadership and collaboration of resources to connect and empower. DMAALF was established by the Directors Council in 2010 with seed money and assistance from the Northwest Area Foundation. The Directors Council leverages our collective power to improve the well-being of the community by providing support to our members and their organizations and pooling our resources to create efficient and effective social service programs.
